| Constellation Software Inc. | Legacy | Allscripts Sunrise EPR | Electronic Health Record | ERP Services and Operations | n/a | 2016 | 2016 |
In 2016, UPMC Mercy deployed Allscripts Sunrise EPR, an Electronic Health Record platform. The implementation targeted acute inpatient operations at UPMC Mercy, a Level 1 Trauma Center operating a 41 bed unit with typical nursing ratios of 6 to 8 patients to 1 RN, and was scoped to support medical and stabilized intensive care patient workflows.
Allscripts Sunrise EPR was configured to provide clinical documentation, computerized provider order entry, medication administration records, and infusion documentation. Configurations included order sets and nursing documentation workflows to manage heparin drips, insulin drips, cardiac drips, patient controlled analgesia pumps, wound care, tracheostomy management, peritoneal dialysis, and central line and port care. The system captured nursing assessments such as opioid and alcohol withdrawal screening and supported the creation of daily goals and plans of care.
The deployment included explicit integrations with Teletracking for patient flow, ShiftSelect for staffing and workforce scheduling, and Accudose medication dispensing systems. Operational coverage extended across nursing, critical care, pharmacy, and telemetry staff, supporting cardiac rhythm monitoring documentation and point of care medication administration. Allscripts Sunrise EPR served as the central clinical record for inpatient medication administration and specimen and blood draw documentation.
Governance and rollout emphasized clinician training and preceptor led orientation to embed new documentation and medication administration workflows into practice. Governance activities focused on standardizing documentation for high risk clinical processes including infusion management and central line care, and on formalizing interdisciplinary daily care planning within the Electronic Health Record.
