In 2011 VDL Groep designated a key user for SAP Business Suite within an ERP Financial deployment. The key user led a finance operations team of three administrative employees and was responsible for preparing quarterly and annual financial reports for VDL Nederland, location Apeldoorn, delivering those reports to the VDL Nederland controller and the VDL boards. The implementation encompassed local accounting and reporting processes and required ongoing coordination with key users at other VDL companies to align reporting conventions and operational practices.
The SAP Business Suite configuration emphasized core ERP Financial capabilities such as general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, financial reporting and month end close workflows, with the key user maintaining master data stewardship and configuration guidance. Day to day activities included training colleagues, troubleshooting issues with an SAP consultant, and engaging peer key users across VDL to optimize how teams work with SAP Business Suite. Governance responsibilities were centered on financial process controls, configuration change management and serving as the primary escalation point for operational and reporting issues, combining configuration stewardship, user enablement and operational reporting ownership for finance and administrative functions at the Apeldoorn site.

In 2011, VDL Groep implemented SAP Warehouse Management at its VDL Weweler site to professionalize and optimize logistics processes. The program coincided with the relocation of a 10,000 m² warehouse to a new building, aligning system go live with the facility move to minimize handover risk and enable immediate operational control.
The SAP Warehouse Management deployment concentrated on core Warehouse Management capabilities, including inventory control, storage bin management, inbound receiving and putaway, and order picking configuration. A designated core user from logistics served as the primary application owner during implementation and then assumed ongoing application management duties to maintain configuration and business rules.
Integrations reflected explicit handling of the EDI order process, organizing external order flows into warehouse execution and enabling coordination with suppliers and customers to optimize supply chain flows. Operational coverage focused on logistics and production supply functions at VDL Weweler, supporting assembly line operations and a series of Lean projects tied to material flow and staging.
Governance and process transformation were led internally, with responsibilities spanning project leadership, management of the EDI order process, application management, and the preparation of operational reports. The initiative unified physical warehouse layout changes with ERP driven Warehouse Management processes to establish standardized workflows and controlled warehouse operations within VDL Groep.
