In 2023 Virgin Management implemented Oracle NetSuite ERP as part of a cloud first strategy, replacing Unit4 Business World to centralize financial operations across its global support functions. The deployment is an ERP Financial implementation designed to support shared administrative functions for Investment Management, Brand Licensing, and the non profit Virgin Unite across the UK, the US, Switzerland, Australia and South Africa, with Sansa Solutions engaged as the implementation partner from project inception.
The implementation focused on core financial modules typical of ERP Financial systems, including a unified general ledger, consolidated financial reporting, multi currency real time currency conversion, and capabilities to support Financial Planning and Analysis workflows. Configuration prioritized a single source of transactional data in NetSuite to replace the previous client based setup of seven chart of accounts, reducing the need for manual data transformation and supporting group wide standard processes and controls.
Sansa Solutions conducted alignment sessions and workshops to map Unit4 Business World data structures and to design the NetSuite chart of accounts, data migration approach and system configuration. NetSuite was integrated with the organisation s expenses and invoicing processing system Concur to provide end to end transactional coverage for expense management and supplier invoicing, and the implementation was kept intentionally light on customizations to minimize ongoing maintenance.
Governance and process changes included standardizing processes and controls across entities, including the not for profit arm, with Sansa facilitating cross company alignment and user enablement. The setup reduced reliance on system administrators by leveraging NetSuite s intuitive configuration and built in resources, while preserving extensibility through the broader NetSuite ecosystem for future enhancements.
Outcomes reported by the finance team include streamlined data gathering for Financial Planning and Analysis using a consistent dataset across companies, elimination of extensive data transformation, lower administrative overhead to maintain the system, and an integrated expenses and invoicing workflow via Concur. Senior Finance Transformation Manager Cara Pannell noted the flexibility of NetSuite and praised Sansa s effort to deliver a configuration fit for purpose now and adaptable for future needs.
