In 2020 Virginia Department of Accounts implemented Acunetix by Invicti Application Security to strengthen its Application Security (AppSec) posture. Acunetix by Invicti Application Security was configured to perform automated web application scanning and vulnerability assessment across web-facing assets, including IIS and ColdFusion applications and SharePoint instances. Scanning workflows were established to support scheduled and authenticated assessments, and findings were used to drive remediation tickets and secure coding feedback into the GIT workflow and application change processes.
The implementation was executed alongside other vulnerability tools, with Acunetix used in conjunction with Nucleus and Nessus for vulnerability triage, and scan outputs were funneled into Splunk and Aisaac for log aggregation and IT governance. Operational coverage included server administration, application teams, and IT security operations, while endpoint management for more than 100 end user workstations remained under the same operational umbrella.
Governance and hardening activities were coordinated with agency standards, baselining and hardening systems to CIS and Commonwealth of Virginia Security Standards SEC530 for Windows and SQL. The team documented and tracked remediation workflows through the security toolchain and explicitly resolved security vulnerabilities using Nucleus, Nessus, and Acunetix by Invicti Application Security as part of the agency security program.
