MicroStrategy Legacy MicroStrategy ONE Analytics Analytics and BI Analytics and BI n/a 2016 2018
In 2016, Vituity implemented MicroStrategy ONE Analytics, deploying an Analytics and BI platform to centralize reporting and analytics for business users. The project team was responsible for interacting with business users to finalize system and reporting requirements, and they developed storytelling dashboards in Tableau Desktop published to Tableau Server while creating MicroStrategy documents, dynamic dashboards and mobile dashboards using MicroStrategy ONE Analytics. Configuration and content work focused on creating attributes, facts and hierarchies for MicroStrategy projects, and extensively building metrics and reports in grid, graph and SQL mode. The implementation leveraged OLAP capabilities such as derived metrics, view filters and dynamic aggregation, along with base formulae and mathematical expressions, complex filters using pass-through functions, custom groups, consolidations, relationship filters and advanced prompts to support advanced analytical workflows. Data engineering and runtime optimization included developing Intelligent Cubes to reduce load on the data warehouse and support faster retrieval, scheduling data refresh on Tableau and QlikView Server, and addressing complex data transformations through stored procedures and slowly changing dimensions in the database design. User access and data security were managed by assigning permissions across Tableau, QlikView and MicroStrategy and by restricting dataset visibility with security filters to enforce row level access controls. Release management and governance used MicroStrategy Object Manager to deploy MicroStrategy objects from development to QA and then to production, establishing an object lifecycle for reports and metadata. The implementation contributed to enterprise data model decisions, advancing star schema and snowflake schema designs that aligned with the MicroStrategy logical model, and included performance tuning and efficient mapping to accommodate complex reporting requirements. MicroStrategy ONE Analytics, together with Tableau and QlikView artifacts, formed an analytics layer supporting reporting, storytelling and mobile consumption for Vituity business users. The deployment emphasized governance around object deployment, security filters and scheduled refresh processes to maintain consistency across analytic content.
