In 2016, Woolworths Group implemented SAP ERP ECC 6.0 as its enterprise ERP Financial platform. The implementation centralized core financial and master data services for the retailer, bringing Woolworths Group accounting, procurement and master-data controls into SAP ERP ECC 6.0 across its retail portfolio.
The SAP ERP ECC 6.0 footprint emphasized enterprise master data management for retail, with configuration and operational support aligned to financial management, procurement and buying workflows, store replenishment and promotional and claims processes. The implementation supported buying and merchandising use cases, promotional claims handling and operational replenishment processes, integrating those functional workflows into the ERP Financial layer and the SAP master data platform.
Operational integration included SAP PMR and Portal Application support as part of the enterprise stack, with incident, request and problem management processed through ServiceNow. Implementation and ongoing operations used a layered support model with 1st and 2nd line and project support, and delivery and support partnerships involving TCS alongside HCL and Cognizant for various support tiers.
Governance and runbook activity centered on a shared service model, BAU and transitional support for major projects, and institution of transitional training and best practices for merchandising and store teams. Woolworths Group maintained functional governance over buying, merchandising, store replenishment and IT support teams, with SAP ERP ECC 6.0 serving as the central ERP Financial system and the authoritative master data platform for retail operations.

Governance emphasized centralized HR data stewardship and standardized HR and payroll processes, with documented ongoing program activity from Aug 2020 to Present in Sydney according to source records. In 2022, Woolworths Group deployed IBM Maximo as its Enterprise Asset Management application to simplify equipment purchases and capture Service Entries for time sheeting across finance and maintenance workflows. The IBM Maximo implementation was positioned to bridge procurement and asset operations with financial planning functions, while keeping forecasting and planning activities in SAP ECC and supplier document exchange on the Ariba Network.
The deployment configured IBM Maximo to support core asset procurement workflows, service entry time recording, and invoice handoffs into accounts payable. The implementation explicitly targeted the high-volume invoice flow that touches Maximo, where over 4500 invoices per week created substantial manual paperwork, photocopying, faxing and email follow-ups, indicating a clear opportunity to automate and move toward paperless processing.
Integrations were a central component of the architecture, with a Commerce Connector linking IBM Maximo touchpoints to SAP ECC and the Ariba Network to exchange documents, invoices and transactions with suppliers. The existing Ariba Cloud Integration CI6 was identified as end of life and slated for upgrade to Cloud Integration 9, and the Ariba to ECC connectivity was reviewed for simplification and realignment from a FICO finance path to standard MM and logistics integration patterns.
Operational scope included Accounts Payable, Finance Shared Services, procurement and MM/Logistics, as well as separation workstreams supporting the demerger of Endeavour Drinks that required segregation of Group Treasury, Expenditure Portal, PayPal interfaces and a new instance of Business Planning and Consolidation. Governance and process changes were built into the program, with the delivery designed to enable Robotic Process Automation using UiPath, and to establish a standard RPA approach including benefits tracking, design principles, standards and risk control and validation.
