In 2015, World Rugby implemented SAP Business ByDesign as an ERP Financial deployment. The engagement covered design and implementation for the Ireland headquartered sports governing body, with a focus on centralizing financial controls and project costing across its operations.
The SAP Business ByDesign implementation included Project Budgeting and Project Management module, Procure to Pay, Order to Sales Invoice, Fixed Assets Management, Financial Closing, and BI and Reporting elements of the enterprise solution. Configuration work concentrated on project cost capture and forecasting, procurement approval workflows, order to cash transaction flows, fixed asset lifecycle accounting, and month end financial close orchestration.
Deployment leveraged the cloud native architecture of SAP Business ByDesign, with solution components configured to support finance, procurement, project management, sales order processing, and asset teams. Integrations were executed as internal transactional and reporting flows between Procure to Pay, Order to Sales Invoice, Fixed Assets, Financial Closing and BI reporting layers to maintain data continuity across modules.
Governance and process restructuring emphasized standardized financial close procedures, project control gates for budgeting and approvals, and procurement workflow policies to align operational teams with ERP Financial processes. Lead design and implementation activities included mapping the chart of accounts, configuring approval hierarchies, and defining BI reporting models to support operational monitoring and compliance.
Operational scope covered finance, procurement, project management and sales functions within World Rugby, with the implementation led by the internal program team and recorded as lead design and implementation of the SAP Business ByDesign ERP Financial solution.
