In 2019, Yell implemented SAP S/4 HANA as its ERP Financial platform. The initial rollout included a live first phase of SAP Commerce Cloud to validate the new system, with a planned marketing redirection to drive traffic to Commerce Cloud in subsequent phases.
SAP S/4 HANA was configured to support core ERP Financial functions alongside operational order and payment capture workflows, and to manage business partner master data. The deployment emphasized finance and transaction processing capabilities consistent with ERP Financial best practices while enabling order to cash orchestration through SAP ERP order capture and payment modules.
Integration architecture used SAP Cloud Platform Integration Suite to provide cloud integration to the existing SAP ERP application for order capture and payment management, with CyberSource handling payment processing as part of the integrated flow. The S/4 HANA deployment was associated with a migration activity to SAP S/4 HANA hosted in Microsoft Azure, and the broader architecture work referenced customer facing design activity within AWS for digital platforms.
Governance and operational architecture were driven by an Operational Architect function covering Infrastructure, Cloud and Security Architecture, applying TOGAF and SABSA principles. Responsibilities included creation of cloud strategy and architectural design artifacts, security architecture and handover of controls to Information Security, supporting the migration from SAP ECC to SAP S/4 HANA and the phased Commerce Cloud go live.

In 2020, Yell implemented Apple Business Chat as a core part of a Chatbots and Conversational AI initiative to rapidly create a marketplace channel connecting consumer customers and business customers. The implementation used Apple Business Chat to expose business listings through Apple Maps and Spotlight search on iPhone and iPad, extending conversational access to iPhones, iPads, Macs and Apple Watch devices.
The deployment delivered a conversational front end designed to handle thousands of simultaneous conversations, with capabilities for guided information workflows, conversational routing and a structured handover to human merchants. Apple Business Chat was configured to guide customers to the information they needed, escalate intent to a merchant, and preserve session context so a merchant could respond through the Yell Business app during their working day.
Integrations in the implementation explicitly included Apple Maps and Spotlight search as discovery surfaces, and a direct operational integration with the Yell Business app for merchant responses and ongoing conversation management. The operational scope covered consumer-facing discovery through Apple device entry points and business-facing handling by merchant users in the Yell Business app, aligning the Chatbots and Conversational AI layer with Yell's marketplace objectives.
Governance and process changes focused on handover protocols and conversation ownership, defining when the Yell AI Chatbot retained control and when responsibility transferred to a merchant via the Yell Business app. The deployment enabled a new conversational commerce channel for businesses to connect directly with customers on Apple platforms through Apple Business Chat, while preserving merchant response workflows within the Yell Business app.
