Somcan Marketing and Sales | Professional Services | 35 | $11M | Canada | Ahearn and Soper | proVision WMS | Warehouse Management | 2008 | n/a |
In 2008 Somcan Marketing and Sales implemented proVision WMS to introduce an automated Warehouse Management capability after deciding to acquire a proper shipping system and to formalize warehousing processes. The decision sequence began with the shipping system installation and led to evaluation of proVision WMS, which stakeholders described as considerably better priced, better managed, properly supported and surprisingly easy to implement, and which Somcan selected to meet its warehousing needs.
The deployment included proVision WMS core warehouse workflows and handheld scanner support, enabling staff to record, locate and track inventory movement at the box and individual item level. Somcan upgraded to Microsoft SQL for data storage as part of the implementation, and the WMS was configured with custom data mappings to ensure transactional information flowed between proVision WMS and Somcan’s accounting and inventory functions.
Integration work connected proVision WMS to the newly installed shipping system and to ERP order entry and inventory modules, so orders entered into the ERP are forwarded to the warehouse system for fulfillment. Implementation required customization to get data passing back and forth between the WMS and ERP, vendor-led implementation assistance, and a rollout focused on warehouse and fulfillment operations, accounting integration points and shipping workflows.
