In 2018 GS Caltex upgraded site-controller infrastructure for KixxHub and implemented Apache Derby, Apps Category . The initiative addressed deterioration of the on-site controller device that interfaces gas pump, charger, TLG, pole sign, CAT terminal, self ODT, and POS at gas stations directly managed by GS Caltex.
The implementation replaced paid license-based software with open source components, introducing CentOS as the operating system, a refreshed kernel stack, and Apache Derby as the embedded DBMS. Apache Derby was deployed to handle local transactional storage for controller telemetry and POS buffering, aligning database functions with edge-controller constraints and the device-level I O workflows described.
GS ITM served as the implementation partner for the hardware refresh and software update rollout, which included physical H W replacement at managed station sites and coordinated software provisioning across controllers. Integrations were implemented directly at the device interface layer, preserving connections to gas pumps, chargers, TLG, pole signage, CAT terminals, self ODT units, and POS systems to maintain onsite operational continuity.
Governance focused on operations and maintenance handover for station managers and centralized support teams, with configuration management applied to CentOS images, kernel versions, and Apache Derby instances. The project explicitly targeted reduced maintenance costs for customers and improved performance to provide a more stable gas station operating environment as stated in project notes.
