In 2017, Familiprix implemented IBM Power Systems to host the SAP S/4HANA application within the Application Hosting and Computing Services category. The initiative focused on infrastructure consolidation to simplify the production environment and increase system uptime while enabling capacity for new projects and additional SAP modules. Familiprix engaged IBM Gold Business Partner Present to deploy an IBM Power E850 server running the SUSE Linux Enterprise operating system as the primary compute platform for SAP S/4HANA. The Power E850 was configured with IBM Capacity on Demand to scale compute for production and nonproduction environments, and the architecture targeted a fully virtualized environment so workloads can be mixed and resources shared across tiers. Centralized storage was implemented with an IBM Storwize V5020 Gen2 array to support production workloads and improve storage reliability and management. The reference architecture was designed to support two Power E850 servers, with the second system allocated for a disaster recovery environment and the next SAP application version. Present’s architecture team built storage configurations, provided implementation recommendations, and coordinated contacts with key IBM resources around SAP HANA requirements. Operational scope included support for Familiprix’s SAP S/4HANA workloads that underpin pharmacy management, distribution center processes, point-of-sale integration, mobile apps, and rewards program functions across Québec and New Brunswick. The implementation increased system reliability and availability, simplified production operations, reduced system management time, and decreased data-center footprint. IBM Power Systems remains the consolidated compute platform in the Application Hosting and Computing Services category for ongoing SAP module deployment.
