In 2014, Samarco migrated its SAP platform to IBM AIX, referenced as IBM AIX in the Operating System (OS) category with IBM as the vendor. The program replaced an HP-UX 11 environment that used ServiceGuard on IBM Power Systems P780 hardware with AIX 7.1 and PowerHA System Mirror 7.1.3 for high availability clustering.
The implementation deployed IBM AIX 7.1 on Power Systems P780 servers, and configured PowerHA System Mirror 7.1.3 to provide OS level clustering and automated failover for the SAP landscape. Work included OS image provisioning, cluster resource definitions, fencing and redundancy configuration, and platform-level tuning consistent with SAP on AIX best practices to stabilize the underlying operating environment.
TIVIT acted as the systems integrator for the migration, executing the cutover of the SAP application stack from HP-UX and ServiceGuard to the AIX PowerHA configuration. The effort centered on the operating system and clustering layers, preserving the SAP application landscape while moving the OS platform and HA orchestration to IBM AIX and PowerHA.
Project governance followed a scheduled migration window from February 2014 to October 2014, with a dedicated specialist consultant assigned to Samarco S.A. Activities documented in the engagement included preproduction validation, phased cutover planning, and postcutover stabilization to ensure continuity of SAP core ERP operations.
