In 2017, AIG Canada implemented SAP S/4 HANA as its SAP S/4 HANA ERP Financial platform to consolidate core finance and master data capabilities. The program used a mix of greenfield, brownfield and sidecar implementation approaches and was scoped to integrate master data governance with core finance processes across multiple SAP instances.
The implementation included SAP MDG Financials along with Customer and Supplier domains, and configured finance-specific objects such as GL, cost center and profit center mappings, and global hierarchies. The team executed MDG HUB model design connecting five target SAP ECC instances, and configured Finance ECC dependent objects, standard and alternate hierarchies, and reconciliation reports to validate master data consistency.
On the technical and integration side, the project delivered ABAP code remediation for S/4 HANA conversions, created CDS views and ODATA services to support HANA analytics, and implemented database migration related adjustments including ATC checks and AMDP work. Integrations were executed using DRF with IDOC and flat file channels, outbound interfaces to BPC, BW and tax systems, custom key mapping logic with BADI implementations, and filters to limit replication to relevant target ECC systems.
Governance and process transformation centered on MDG change request modeling using BRF plus, defining change request types, reason codes, edition types, approval groups and email notifications, and implementing custom workflows with parallel and auto approval features. The rollout included fit gap analysis to align standard MDG functionality with business requirements, end user training, hypercare and production support, and documentation to satisfy SOX, internal audit and data governance requirements.
The program completed an MDG Financials proof of concept and implemented the MDG HUB model connecting five targets, and deployed custom processes to address high volume data loads including batch background job imports and enhanced transformation logic. The implementation also included HANA to AWS cloud migration work, development of RICEFW specifications, and creation of business unit specific security roles and landing pages for operational use.
