In 2020, ALDI SUD established a centralised, integrated SAP S/4 HANA core as its ERP Financial backbone for material and value flows across the business. The initiative adopted a best-of-breed satellite model, with SAP S/4 HANA centralising ERP functions while specialized systems support detailed retail processes across stores worldwide.
SAP S/4 HANA aggregates core ERP functions including finance, inventory control and procurement orchestration, and serves as the single source for material and value flow data. SAP Ariba and SAP MDG were implemented to map buying and master data processes, and SAP CAR is used to centrally store granular POS sales receipts. A forecasting and replenishment system consumes the CAR sales records and applies algorithms to determine country and store level replenishment quantities.
The architecture is built on satellite systems connected to the SAP S/4 HANA core, with SAP Process Orchestration used as middleware to manage several hundred integration points between components. SAP Solution Manager is employed for monitoring individual SAP components and for supporting overall operation and continuous development, and the landscape includes a mix of on-premise, cloud and software-as-a-service deployments.
Restructuring the process and system landscape required coordinated rollout planning to keep ongoing operations running while new systems were introduced, and it prompted new collaboration models across international teams of internal and external experts. Increased customer satisfaction is an explicit outcome, illustrated by the yoghurt flavour example where store-level sales granularity enables targeted replenishment so customer preferred flavours are stocked in the right quantities.

In 2020, ALDI SUD deployed SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central as its Core HR platform to consolidate core HR processes and support employees across the organization. The implementation was positioned to support job management, e-learning and employee feedback, reflecting ALDI SUD’s stated objective that employees be supported to get the best out of themselves every day via SAP SuccessFactors.
The SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central deployment focused on core HR data modeling and role based access, with configuration workstreams for job management workflows, learning management functionality for e-learning, and performance and feedback processes. Standard Employee Central capabilities were applied to harmonize employee records, manager and employee self service, and configurable business rules to enforce HR workflow automation.
Operational coverage extended to ALDI SUD’s HR and talent management functions and governance over approximately 50,000 employees in Germany, with the platform serving store level managers through corporate HR alike. The implementation mapped a large number of the most important HR processes into SAP SuccessFactors, aligning HR, learning, and performance processes under a single Core HR system.
Governance and rollout emphasized centralized HR stewardship, process standardization and configuration led change to onboard business units to the new SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central model. The deployment established a consistent Core HR foundation for subsequent talent management and learning initiatives within ALDI SUD.

In 2018, ALDI SUD implemented Adobe WorkFront as a Business Process Management application to centralize marketing work management within its Adobe Experience Cloud footprint. The deployment was initiated and led by the Marketing IT organization and International Services, with implementation activities documented during a leadership period based in Mülheim an der Ruhr.
The Adobe WorkFront implementation focused on standard Business Process Management capabilities, configured to provide structured work intake, project and portfolio management, resource planning, creative proofing and approvals, and workflow automation. Configuration included templated request forms, role based access controls, and automated routing to enforce consistent intake and approval processes across marketing projects.
Adobe WorkFront was integrated into the broader Adobe Experience Cloud ecosystem, working alongside Adobe Analytics, Adobe Audience Manager, Adobe Target, Adobe Campaign and Adobe Engage to align campaign planning and execution with analytics and audience data. Operational coverage targeted the Marketing function and International Services teams, with a centralized instance used to unify request handling and production workflows across those groups.
Governance and rollout were managed by an internal IT Manager leading a team of IT experts and external consultants, covering implementation, phased rollout and ongoing operations. Process changes emphasized standardized workflows and centralized work management to create repeatable request and approval procedures within Marketing, while ongoing operation responsibilities remained with the centralized IT and International Services organization.
