In 2021, Allscripts implemented the InRule Platform as part of its cloud based Hub back office application to validate and enrich EHR transaction data, deploying the solution in the United States. The deployment targeted high throughput message processing and was configured to handle roughly one million transactions per day, about 70 messages per second, within clinical and billing message flows. This implementation is categorized as Business Process Management and focused on business rules authoring, validation, and enrichment capabilities.
Allscripts configured the InRule Platform to surface a business rules engine and a non technical authoring interface so business users could create and maintain validation and enrichment logic, reducing dependence on custom ASP code and BizTalk. Functional modules emphasized rule execution, data validation, and enrichment pipelines that attach to EHR transaction processing inside the Hub, centralizing decision logic and improving maintainability and performance reported in the source case study. The InRule Platform runtime and rule repository were embedded in the Hub application stack to provide a single point of rule management for transaction flows.
Operational coverage was in the United States and included back office teams responsible for EHR transaction processing and downstream billing and clinical message flows. Integrations were executed through the Hub messaging pipelines, with a documented reduction in reliance on BizTalk and custom ASP code, which shifted business rule governance toward Allscripts business users and operations teams. A case study documenting the deployment and its performance and maintainability improvements was published in 2022.
