In 2015 ALM Media implemented Microsoft Dynamics GP as its ERP Financial system to establish a consolidated accounting platform for the newly formed company and to support sale accounting for Summit Business Media. The implementation was led by the company Controller and included creation of the starting balance sheet for ALM Media following the divestiture, aligning financial records to Microsoft Dynamics GP for ongoing consolidation and control.
The deployment focused on core financial modules, including general ledger configuration, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, and structured credit and collections workflows, alongside travel and entertainment expense controls. ALM Media tested and upgraded its accounting environment to Microsoft Dynamics GP 2015, and integrated NY back office software from Solomon into Microsoft Dynamics GP 2015 to centralize transactional posting and reconciliation processes.
Operational coverage centered on the Accounting department and the NY back office, with duties extending to sale accounting, closing Summit Business Media tax, payroll and 401k accounts, and coordinating cash disbursements to Summit vendors and equity holders. The program also encompassed transitioning banking and credit card functions to the new company framework while documenting procedures to support an outsourced accounting model in India.
Governance and process transformation included leading the accounting team through testing and cutover activities, implementing new travel and entertainment and credit and collections policies and procedures, and developing training and operational documentation for the outsourced accounting processes. Microsoft Dynamics GP served as the central ERP Financial platform around which these governance, policy, and operational changes were organized.
