| SAP | SAP ERP ECC 6.0 | SAP S/4 HANA | ERP Financial | ERP Financial Management | n/a | 2025 | 2026 |
In 2025, Bank of New Zealand implemented SAP S/4 HANA as its core ERP Financial platform, migrating from SAP ERP ECC 6.0 and positioning the new system to centralize finance and procurement operations. The program ran as a multi-disciplinary Scrum delivery, led by a Platform Owner accountable for BNZ’s Procurement, ERP, and Super platforms, with a dedicated team of eight engineers, analysts, and testers and a total project budget of $10M.
The SAP S/4 HANA deployment focused on finance, procurement, and reporting capabilities typical of ERP Financial systems, including core general ledger and accounts payable workflows, electronic purchase order and invoice processing, and data modelling for operational reporting. BNZ configured integrations that included a third-party procurement platform and HR management solutions, and delivered data modelling and reporting tools tied to those integrations to improve transactional visibility and contract linkage.
Operational coverage spanned procurement, finance, and HR business functions across the bank, with platform governance exercised through product roadmap and backlog management, stakeholder engagement up to GM level, and Agile project management practices. The rollout leveraged cloud hosting optimization work on Azure as part of the platform management activities, and prior vendor selection activity associated with the migration documented an explicit $12M lifecycle saving for the program.
Documented outcomes tied to the integration work included a greater than 15% increase in electronic Purchase Orders and Invoices and an approximate 10% rise in Purchase Orders attached to contracts, and ongoing hosting cost reductions of 7.2% annually from cloud optimization initiatives. SAP S/4 HANA now serves as BNZ’s ERP Financial backbone, with governance and product ownership formalized to manage ongoing configuration, integration, and reporting enhancements.

| SAP | Legacy | SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central | Core HR | HCM | n/a | 2017 | 2017 |
In 2017, Bank of New Zealand implemented SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central as part of a Global SuccessFactors implementation program in the Core HR category. The implementation required on-site representation in Melbourne for requirements gathering, build design and testing, reflecting a cross-border project cadence supporting BNZ HR configuration and validation.
The deployment delivered core modules including Employee Profile, Performance and Talent Modules, with SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central configured for profile management, performance management workflows and talent processes. The team established Role Based Permissions for both Performance and Talent Modules, and the project designated subject matter expertise for Employee Profile and Performance while providing SME support for the Talent module.
Integration work focused on the logic and structure of integration files from SAP to SuccessFactors, and the role included authoring integration logic guidance and executing integration testing. Test management responsibilities included writing detailed test cases for BNZ to execute, performing integration and system tests, coordinating user acceptance testing and validating functional handoffs between SAP integration feeds and SuccessFactors.
Governance and operational readiness were addressed through documentation and enablement, including quick reference guides and training delivered to BNZ HR teams on Employee Profile and Performance functionality. The implementation scope therefore combined configuration, integration testing, UAT orchestration, permissions design and end user training to operationalize SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central within BNZ HR processes.
