| ConsenSys | Legacy | ConsenSys Quorum | Blockchain Platform | Blockchain | n/a | 2019 | 2019 |
In 2019 Bankinter implemented ConsenSys Quorum, deploying the ConsenSys Quorum Blockchain Platform to participate in JP Morgan’s Interbank Information Network. The implementation centers on a permissioned, consortium-oriented blockchain architecture using the Quorum enterprise Ethereum variant to enable interbank exchange of payment compliance data.
ConsenSys Quorum was configured to support permissioned secure messaging, document file transfer and data modeling capabilities that underpin IIN workflows. Configuration work focused on privacy controls for node-level transactions and smart contract-based data structures to represent payment inquiry and resolution events, and the network iteration included IIN Resolve features such as target bank account validation.
The deployment integrated with correspondent banking and cross-border payments compliance processes, allowing Bankinter to engage in simultaneous multi-party interactions when payment details are flagged for confirmation. This operational coverage aligned Bankinter with a broader consortium of banks using Quorum within IIN, and the network was slated to enter production in the third quarter of 2019 for domestic and foreign payment data.
Governance changes associated with the rollout reflected consortium rules for permissioned access and multi-party dispute resolution, shifting one-way bank-to-bank communication toward a shared, permissioned exchange model. At the network level JP Morgan positioned IIN to reduce payment delays, resolve compliance queries more quickly and open the platform to third-party developers to extend secure messaging, document transfer and settlement-related capabilities.
