| SAP | Legacy | SAP S/4 HANA | ERP Financial | ERP Financial Management | n/a | 2017 | 2017 |
In 2017 Birds Eye implemented SAP S/4 HANA as the core ERP Financial platform to centralize and standardize group finance processes across its European operations. SAP S/4 HANA was positioned to provide the finance application foundation supporting general ledger, receivables and payables accounting and tax determination for multi country compliance.
The deployment covered a full FICO scope with ownership and configuration for GL, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, cost center accounting, profit center accounting, COPA and COPC modules. Finance configuration work included New GL design, condition records and indirect tax determination in SD and FI, and country specific tax channels such as Portugal SAFT XML submission, Hungary e invoice automation for legal submission, and a Spain tax invoice platform for statutory reporting. The program also implemented indirect tax treatments for Brazil and Argentina and withholding tax rules for Italy, France, Germany, Portugal, Norway, Denmark and Finland.
Operational coverage used an onsite and offshore support model to deliver and support SAP S/4 HANA across Italy, France, Spain, the United Kingdom, Germany and Portugal, with the finance team owning end to end GL, AP and AR processes. The implementation included system integration testing from finance to SD billing before go live, and creation of LSMW structures to migrate master and transactional data including GL accounts, payables, receivables, asset accounting, cost centres, profit centres and inventory records. Support activities included handling S/4 HANA GL migration processes related to claims processing and open item processing, and resolving month end and period end queries.
Program governance emphasized functional design and specification artifacts, with the senior FICO application architect acting as subject matter expert to translate business requirements into SAP configuration and bespoke enhancements. Controls included test script creation for upgrades and patching, review and guidance of offshore deliverables, and support for report enhancements and conversion programs, while finance retained ownership of process changes across cross functional areas.

In 2018 Birds Eye implemented Microsoft Power BI as part of its Analytics and BI tooling to support Supply Chain and Demand Planning functions. Microsoft Power BI was adopted to centralize reporting and provide SKU level visibility for customer operations between Birds Eye and retail partners such as Sainsbury's.
The implementation emphasized reporting and bespoke tracker capabilities, with Power BI reports used to perform forecast variance analysis, promotional performance tracking, and short term demand adjustments. Teams built dashboards that produced Day 1 sales projections at 5, 12 and 21 day intervals, maintained an in-store sales tracker for all Birds Eye SKUs, and generated weekly reports to calibrate upcoming 0 to 12 month forecasts.
Power BI was connected into operational workflows with SAP APO and Sales Planner, with reports and trackers used to update SAP APO inputs and adjust order recommendations. Operational coverage included the Customer Operations function within Supply Chain, Demand Planners, National Account Managers, Sainsbury's Supplier Analysts, depot and store inventory monitoring, and coordination with third party logistics providers when delivery slots or order switches were required.
Governance centered on ownership of the Collaborative Planning, Forecasting and Replenishment process, monthly review meetings with Demand Planners and National Account Managers, and weekly S and OP sessions with the Commercial team to escalate supply or promotional risks. The Power BI-driven reporting supported execution outcomes that included preventing over and under stocking at depots and stores and contributing to a successful range change implementation by aligning pipe fill volumes and order dates to business expectations.
