In 2022, Blue Bell Creameries upgraded to Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 and deployed RFgen Mobile Foundations for Oracle E-Business Suite to address mobile data collection, visibility, inventory efficiency and ingredient traceability. The implementation centers on Oracle E-Business Suite as an ERP Financial application supporting core inventory and manufacturing financial workflows across four manufacturing plants and 57 distribution centers in the United States. The deployment scope includes receiving, production shop floor, quality and fixed asset processes. Blue Bell retained continuity of automated data capture while modernizing device and batch handling during the ERP upgrade from Oracle E-Business Suite 11i to Release 12.
RFgen Mobile Foundations was configured to provide mobile barcoding and mobile batch capabilities across receiving, inventory, manufacturing and quality transactions. Functional modules implemented include receiving scans from purchase orders, cycle count workflows, inputs into production batches, WIP completion and finished intermediate item handling, returns and quality transaction capture. The solution tied lot and quality information to receiving adjustments and batch inputs, enabling traceability of ingredients through production. Oracle E-Business Suite and RFgen handled shop floor transactions in real time to preserve transactional integrity during high volume plant operations.
Integration architecture relied on RFgen real time integration to Oracle E-Business Suite to synchronize handheld scans with ERP transaction processing. RFgen provided reliable offline data collection for handheld devices to eliminate data drops that had caused rework under the prior mobile solution. Operational coverage extended from dockside vendor receipt with handheld scanners to warehouse cycle counting and plant floor WIP transactions, and included a mobile fixed asset solution supporting over 800 truck drivers and fixed assets at thousands of branch and customer sites.
Governance and process changes focused on moving from paper based fixed asset tracking to a digital paperless process and on formalizing mobile workflows for receiving, inventory and quality control. Blue Bell in house developers used RFgen to customize transactions and workflows more rapidly than with the previous mobile platform, and the rollout included end user training to embed new handheld processes across warehouse and production teams. Lots and quality records were consolidated into ERP transactions to support compliance and ingredient traceability under the ERP Financial system.
Results reported by Blue Bell are a smooth transition to Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 without loss of data collection functionality, increased productivity and improved data accuracy from handheld cycle counts, resolution of data drop issues through offline collection and higher quality handhelds, and significantly enhanced fixed asset tracking. The solution delivered continued scalability and seamless integration across multiple operating systems, and Blue Bell is evaluating additional RFgen capabilities such as continuous availability batch mode to improve route accounting for product delivery.

In 2017, Blue Bell Creameries deployed IBM Maximo as its Enterprise Asset Management platform to centralize parts procurement and fleet support. The rollout targeted support for a fleet of over 1,000 vehicles, including semi tractors and bobtail delivery trucks across 60 locations in the Central and Eastern United States, with operational ownership documented at the Brenham, TX Fleet Parts Branch Coordinator role. IBM Maximo was used directly by parts and purchasing staff to purchase, coordinate and supply vehicle parts and to report progress to Purchasing Department management.
Configuration and functional focus emphasized inventory and parts master management, procurement workflow automation, vendor cataloging, and work order linkage to fleet assets consistent with Enterprise Asset Management capabilities. The Fleet Parts Branch Coordinator used IBM Maximo to research vendors, negotiate price and availability, and to generate purchase transactions, indicating the system was configured to support vendor selection, purchase order creation, and parts availability tracking. Standard EAM constructs such as part number control, stock location visibility and replenishment triggers were employed to align parts provisioning with maintenance work orders.
Operational governance centered on branch-level coordination feeding into a centralized Purchasing Department, with documented reporting lines and responsibilities for vendor negotiation and parts distribution. The implementation covered business functions including purchasing, fleet maintenance, parts distribution and inventory control across the specified geographic footprint. IBM Maximo served as the transactional and audit system for parts procurement and fleet parts logistics within Blue Bell Creameries Enterprise Asset Management environment.
