Microsoft Legacy Microsoft Power BI Analytics and BI Analytics and BI n/a 2015 2018
In 2015 Bluesun Inc. implemented Microsoft Power BI as its reporting platform within its Analytics and BI environment. The initiative aligned reporting consolidation with ongoing backoffice and broker software projects supporting the Investments and Insurance business, leveraging development work in C#, Java and SQL. Reporting projects had been produced with DataMine and Crystal, and the program transitioned those outputs into Microsoft Power BI report models and dashboards. The implementation included building ETL patterns against SQL data sources, authoring semantic models and embedding Power BI reports into broker and backoffice workflows. Architecturally the reporting platform was integrated with a Web API layer for third party feed integration with carrier clients, using SQL databases as the primary data store and application services implemented in C#, Java and Web API technologies. The delivery and operations toolchain included Git Bitbucket, TFS, Jenkins, JIRA, JIRA Agile and Confluence to support source control, continuous integration pipelines, issue tracking and release coordination. Operational scope covered Investments and Insurance reporting and touched broker and backoffice functional areas, while the program also addressed targeted performance and security improvements as the reporting platform was aging and growing. Governance relied on existing agile workflows in JIRA Agile and CI automation to orchestrate iterative report delivery and platform stabilization.
