In 2021, BOMA Project Kenya launched a roving-agent pilot with vendor PesaKit to deploy PesaKit Pepea, an eCommerce application, in Northern Kenya. The engagement targeted delivery of digital financial services and last-mile merchant and agent commerce to approximately 1,000 rural women, with a specific operational focus on agent liquidity, airtime and bill payments under the Boda Pesa pilot model.
Module usage of PesaKit Pepea is inferred from the pilot scope and includes merchant and agent commerce workflows, agent account and wallet management, transaction processing for airtime top up and bill payments, and liquidity management capabilities to support roving agent cash flows. These functional capabilities align with eCommerce category patterns for merchant transaction orchestration, agent settlement, and digital wallet handling.
Operational coverage centered on field finance and digital financial services functions across Northern Kenya, supporting roving agents and last-mile merchant transactions for rural women entrepreneurs. The deployment was structured as a pilot launched in November 2021, with rollout governance oriented around agent onboarding, transaction monitoring, and liquidity control procedures to manage agent cash positions and payment flows.
