| SAP | SAP R/3 | SAP ERP ECC 6.0 | ERP Financial | ERP | n/a | 2011 | 2011 |
In 2011 BP America implemented SAP ERP ECC 6.0 as its core ERP Financial platform. The program upgraded a live SAP R/3 environment to SAP ERP ECC 6.0 using the SAP Software Update Manager SUM tool, with the implementation covering production ECC 6.0 landscapes and linked BW systems operating across BP America's Chicago and Bangalore sites.
The technical scope included an Enhancement Package upgrade path from ERP 6.0 EHP5 to ERP 6.0 EHP6, Unicode conversion activities for BW from BW 3.5 to BW 7.3 using the CUUG method, and kernel and support pack management across SAP instances. Functional coverage aligned with ERP Financial workflows, including general ledger processing, accounts payable and receivable support, and financial reporting infrastructure, with standard SAP Basis configuration, transport management and CTS controls applied to govern changes.
The implementation architecture relied on Oracle database platforms with explicit Oracle patching sequences from 10.2.0.4.0 to later releases, Data Guard configuration for standby database support for PI 7.0, and homogenous system copy techniques to provision a dedicated disaster recovery environment. Backup and recovery was managed with Veritas NetBackup and BR* tools, online table reorganization and index rebuilds were executed with QUEST and Oracle methods, and OS level migration work included a Windows to Solaris move for BW 7.0.
Operational governance emphasized regular maintenance and resilience practices, including quarterly production system refreshes, yearly disaster recovery drills leveraging Oracle Flashback, quarterly database password rotation, table space and data file administration, EWA report analysis, CCMS agent administration and SMD instrumentation for performance monitoring. Transport importing and production change controls, printer and client configuration support, and documented restore and recovery procedures were maintained as part of the SAP ERP ECC 6.0 operational runbook.
