| IBM | Legacy | IBM Z Systems | Application Hosting and Computing Services | IaaS | n/a | 2018 | 2018 | In 2018, Banco de Brasília implemented IBM Z Systems within an Application Hosting and Computing Services program to bolster mainframe infrastructure and management, centering the deployment on IBM z15 hardware and IBM Z Service Management Suite components. The initiative targeted automation of operational activities, platform integration and expanded monitoring and statistics collection across the bank’s fleet of servers and services. The implementation focused on instrumenting real-time monitoring capabilities, using IBM Tivoli Enterprise Portal for centralized dashboards and installing and configuring the IBM OMEGAMON Data Provider and OMEGAMON for Db2 Performance Expert on z/OS agent features. Data collection from monitoring agents under IBM z/OS was configured to capture z/OS metrics and telemetry from IBM CICS Transaction Server, IBM Db2, IBM MQ, storage, network and Java components, and to retain historical data for analysis. Architecturally, the OMEGAMON Data Provider acted as a central ingestion point, forwarding mainframe metrics into the bank’s observability stack so that Elasticsearch, Prometheus, Grafana, OpenSearch and Zabbix could consolidate visibility across mainframe and distributed platforms. Dashboards were created to professionalize visualization of operating indicators and statistics, enabling the same monitoring processes and alerting logic to span high-platform and low-platform environments. Operational scope included IT operations and Db2 administration teams, with governance changes to unify monitoring processes, publish dashboards to interested parties and enable alerting workflows for early intervention. IBM and BRB infrastructure teams collaborated to define environments and configurations, and to operationalize automated actions in anomalous cases regardless of metric origin. Reported outcomes include more proactive monitoring, strengthened security posture and improved infrastructure performance, with a documented case where Db2 archive storage pool alerting provided early warning that prevented a repeat mainframe outage. The IBM Z Systems implementation supports Banco de Brasília’s ability to deliver secure, observable services to its 7 million plus customers. | |
