In 2022, BSH Home Appliance launched a global SAP S/4 HANA program focused on ERP Financial. The initiative aims to create a consistent, flexible and easy to maintain IT landscape and to migrate 39 production sites in Europe, the USA, Latin America and Asia using a step by step, wave based rollout. The rollouts are designed to be fast and cost effective, built on a highly automated and secure methodology to ensure data accuracy, traceability and minimal project disruption.
BSH leveraged SNP and the SNP CrystalBridge® transformation software to industrialize data migrations through a data transformation factory. The factory approach included creating the migration plan, installing and defining the rule base in the transformation software, extracting data via RFC based on selection rules, staging data to support repeated migrations, performing initial validation and verification, transforming records according to the rule base and loading them into SAP S/4 HANA targets. The program used a reusable template and rule base to migrate master and transaction data and to validate data during cutover sequences, following the selective BLUEFIELD approach to transfer only relevant information, modules and organizational units.
The software based factory was configured to deliver transformations by country, location or product group, operating as a digital assembly line that supports minor template adjustments and centralized propagation of changes. Real time insights into migration phases, automated processes and direct user interaction enabled clustered or simultaneous SAP S/4 HANA implementations to reduce system downtimes. The flexible SNP software and migration approach allowed additional migration objects identified during execution to be added to scope with limited effort.
During the enabling phase, the core BSH team used SNP software to build in house analysis and data migration expertise, taking responsibility for cutover management and involving regional employees in subsequent rollouts. The knowledge transfer and industrialized approach made the overall SAP S/4 HANA program more cost efficient and reduced overall project duration, while improving data quality in target systems and accelerating the introduction of innovations. Business functions impacted include logistics, master data management and financial operations, with governance focused on automated validation, traceable data flows and minimizing disruption related costs.
