In 2019 Cajun Industries implemented HCSS HeavyJob as a Project Portfolio Management application to support its heavy civil infrastructure portfolio and centralize estimating and project controls work. The deployment targeted project management and estimating workflows used on large sitework, structural concrete, underground pipe, pump station, and flood control projects, positioning HCSS HeavyJob to support project revenue and cost forecasting and day to day construction management activities.
The implementation was configured to enforce project cost controls, change order tracking and contractual change review workflows, schedule monitoring and construction progress reporting, and documented constructability reviews. HCSS HeavyJob was used to standardize forecasting of quantities and costs, to capture project labor and production data for revenue and cost forecasting, and to support procurement planning and subcontractor management as part of the estimating and execution lifecycle.
Operational coverage included Estimating, Project Management, Senior Construction Managers, Superintendents, Business Development, and executive oversight from the Vice President, reflecting the organization structure referenced in Cajun’s job and role descriptions. The HCSS HeavyJob deployment complemented the company toolset and workflows that referenced HCSS HeavyBid, Viewpoint Construction Software, Pvault, and P6 Primavera, supporting handoffs between estimating, scheduling, and field execution rather than replacing specific named systems.
Governance emphasized alignment with existing project meeting cadences and contractual processes, with HCSS HeavyJob records used to support internal project reviews, change order analysis per contract terms, and controls for quantities revenue schedule and change orders. The tool was positioned to reinforce Cajun’s safety quality and execution programs by improving transparency between Superintendents Senior Construction Managers Business Unit Leaders and project staff.
