In 2016 Canadian Red Cross implemented Microsoft Dynamics AX as an ERP Financial system under its One Red Cross Architecture initiative, aiming to improve service delivery through a 360 view of constituents, digital workflows and mobile readiness. The deployment placed Microsoft Dynamics AX at the center of a Microsoft technology stack to consolidate financial and constituent transactional data and provide a unified financial backbone across the organization.
The implementation concentrated on core ERP Financial capabilities, including general ledger, fund accounting and budgeting, accounts payable and receivable, and grant and donor financial tracking, with workflow automation layered to support transactional approvals. Microsoft Dynamics AX was configured to reflect nonprofit accounting patterns and to embed digital workflow orchestration, enabling mobile-enabled approvals and field data capture aligned to service operations.
Avanade served as the system integrator, partnering with the Canadian Red Cross CIO organization to implement Microsoft Dynamics AX within the One Red Cross Architecture. Integration work targeted constituent and donor repositories, digital channels and mobile front-ends to create the intended 360 constituent view, and linked operational systems to the financial ledger to align service delivery with financial records.
Governance was organized around the One Red Cross Architecture with cross-functional process owners and a centralized data model, and Avanade was positioned as the implementation partner committed to project success. The approach emphasized staged rollouts of financial modules, workflow governance for approvals and service processes, and mobile readiness to support field teams and constituent-facing activities.

In 2014, Canadian Red Cross implemented Moodle LMS in its Learning and Development environment. The deployment addressed centralized e-learning delivery for the organization, aligning the Moodle LMS with HR and operational training needs across the nonprofit.
Configuration centered on core Learning and Development capabilities typical of an LMS, including course management, learner enrollment and provisioning, SCORM and content packaging support, role based learning paths, and compliance reporting and analytics. The implementation emphasized configurable course catalog structures, instructor and learner workflows, and reporting dashboards to support training administrators and HR learning specialists.
Moodle LMS was implemented as part of a broader technology stack that included Microsoft Dynamics AX, Microsoft Azure, CIMS Health Care, Great Plains, ADP Payroll, Kronos Time & Attendance, Oracle-Taleo Recruitment and Onboarding System, and Trapeze-Novus Transportation and Logistics system. The LMS was integrated into existing HR and operational application workflows to support learning records, user administration, and alignment with talent and workforce systems.
Governance and rollout oversight were managed through a PMO lite established by the IT Project Manager, which trained staff and coordinated cross program activities with ERP and HR projects. Project governance focused on staged rollouts, administrator training, and aligning learning processes with HR operations and compliance workflows.

In 2017 Canadian Red Cross implemented Microsoft Power BI as part of its Analytics and BI tooling to centralize financial reporting and FP&A analysis. The initiative was explicitly aligned to Support Services departments and Financial Shared Services groups, with primary authoring and governance residing in the senior financial analyst function based in Ottawa, Canada.
Microsoft Power BI was configured to deliver standard and self-service capabilities for month-end reporting, consolidated accounting data views, interactive dashboards for budget versus actual analysis, and ad hoc line item exploration for three year budgeting cycles. The implementation supported automated distribution of financial reports, templates for year-end working papers, and role-based report access for senior management and support services leaders.
Integrations included direct reporting workflows with Dynamics AX for transactional ledger and subledger extract, Excel workbooks used for line item analysis and data staging, and BI360 as an ancillary planning and reporting tool used by the finance team. Power BI consumption was embedded into existing month-end journal entry and accounting consolidation processes, enabling single-pane access to consolidated datasets used during internal and external audits.
Governance centered on knowledge sharing and training, the senior financial analyst led training sessions on Dynamics AX, Excel, BI360, and Microsoft Power BI to raise capability across Financial Shared Services. Operational practices were updated to include Power BI report validation during month-end close and inclusion of Power BI artifacts in audit support, and the program explicitly increased co-worker knowledge and skills through targeted training.
