In 2012 Candlelight Products implemented Sage 1000 as its core ERP Financial system to centralize product data and support high velocity warehousing and order fulfillment across the UK, China and Hong Kong operations. Candlelight is an importer of design led housewares operating 24 hours a day from its UK headquarters, and the deployment was positioned to support continuous operations and close ties between purchasing, inventory and distribution.
The implementation combined Sage 1000 with a Datalinx Warehouse Manager system and a bespoke product management application built with an MS Access 2010 front end and MS SQL 2008 back end. Reporting and analytics were delivered through a mix of Crystal Reports and Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services, with an active program to migrate Crystal reports to SSRS. The technical stack ran on a virtualized vmWare infrastructure, Windows Server 2008, and Exchange 2010, while bespoke SQL, VB and web applications provided transactional and integration logic.
Integrations included EDI links with trading partners and an automated EDI workflow for the companys largest customer, off site backup and cross site replication from Hong Kong to the UK, and a trade fair technology layer for mobile sales tools and inventory visibility. Operational coverage explicitly encompassed warehousing, sales at trade shows, design team workflows, and the IT managed services that support 24 by 7 operations across the UK, Hong Kong and China offices.
Governance and rollout were led by the Head of IT who instituted IT job logging and project management standards, led the Sage Line 1000 upgrade to production, and managed a SQL Server migration from 2000 to 2008. Documented outcomes from the program include automated EDI processing that delivered staffing cost savings and improved customer service, SQL server optimization that improved reporting timescales, and a redesigned bonded warehouse reporting process that removed hours of manual data extraction.
