In 2019 Chelmsford Star implemented Infor SunSystems as its ERP Financial platform to centralize finance, branch accounting and retail fiscal workflows across the co operative society. The deployment targeted core financial controls and retail accounting operations for the group, with Infor SunSystems used to record supplier activity, branch charging and price file maintenance.
Infor SunSystems was configured to support invoice and credit note posting, supplier statement reconciliation, accounts payable processing and automated journey import routines. Functional workflows implemented include weekly supplier invoice processing for diverse suppliers such as lottery and regional distributors, processing CWS invoices against branch charging, and consolidation of branch charging runs into the financial ledger. The system also supported scan margin reporting and investigation workflows for margin variances detected from till transactions.
The implementation incorporated explicit integrations with retail operational systems, notably extracting store stock take data from the Celtec system to produce stock result figures and ingesting till transaction information for margin analysis. Petrol site operations were supported through regular PFS promotion package configuration on the retail side every three weeks, and operational data flows into Infor SunSystems for supplier and branch charge posting. Journey import processing and merging of promotional documents were used to streamline batch data movement into the financial application.
Operational governance centered on the finance and retail administration function, with defined weekly runs for branch charging, routine supplier reconciliation, and a designated Retail Administrator performing invoice posting, credit note entry and supplier statement investigation. Price file maintenance for the food division and procedural checks for branch document errors were embedded into the operating cadence, with processes documented for chasing claims with depots and resolving supplier discrepancies.
Process level outcomes described by internal users emphasized ongoing efforts to make work more efficient, with Infor SunSystems enabling centralized posting and investigation processes for supplier and branch accounting. Persistent margin variance investigations and supplier reconciliation tasks remained an operational focus, highlighting continued attention to transactional accuracy within the ERP Financial environment.

In 2019, Chelmsford Star implemented IRIS Cascade Payroll from vendor IRIS Software to centralize Payroll operations. The IRIS Cascade Payroll deployment supports weekly payroll processing for over 700 employees, monthly payroll runs for 10 directors and payments to approximately 150 pensioners, and covers payroll activity across 40 stores, 2 department stores and 7 funeral director sites.
Configuration and functional modules include core payroll processing, statutory tax code and student loan calculations, pension deduction and Auto Enrolment handling, and administration of statutory pay types including SSP, SMP, SPP, SPBP and SAP. The system is used to prepare payroll-generated P45s for terminations, calculate and process Attachment of Earnings and court-ordered deductions, and to submit FPS, EPS and Apprenticeship Levy reports and PAYE settlement through the payroll application.
Integrations and operational coverage reflect posting weekly payroll data into the Sun finance system and ongoing liaison with the pension provider for annual payment reports and pension forecasts, as well as advisory support for integrating new timekeeping software. Governance and process improvements were implemented by the sole payroll contact, who maintained weekly expenditure and variance spreadsheets, introduced a generic upload to reduce period-end errors, and managed HMRC compliance and payroll reporting across the society.
