In 2016, the City of Cambridge implemented SAP S/4 HANA as its core municipal ERP platform. The deployment was part of a broader public sector adoption where more than 200 public sector customers decided to use S/4HANA and approximately 50 were already live, including the City of Cambridge, Ontario.
The SAP S/4 HANA implementation concentrated on ERP Financial functionality, with configuration of core financial modules such as general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed asset accounting and financial reporting, aligned to municipal chart of accounts and statutory reporting requirements. SAP S/4 HANA was used to centralize transactional finance processing and to support period close, budget control and statutory reporting workflows typical for an ERP Financial environment.
BlueIT Group served as the system integrator, leading system configuration, data migration and public sector functional mapping. The deployment established a centralized financial ledger, role based access controls for finance staff and integration touchpoints designed to interoperate with treasury and procurement workflows in support of municipal operations.
Governance and rollout emphasized cross department stakeholder alignment and a phased cutover to finance and accounting teams, with process standardization and change management targeted at reconciliations, chart of accounts harmonization and financial reporting procedures. The City of Cambridge went live on SAP S/4 HANA in 2016 as one of the early public sector adopters of the platform.

In 2007, City of Cambridge implemented SAP HCM Learning Management System. The SAP HCM Learning Management System was provisioned as a cloud implementation and managed under the city’s enterprise applications portfolio in Cambridge, Ontario, with oversight from the Manager Business Systems role responsible for SAP, Maximo, GIS, SharePoint, AMANDA and ActiveNET.
The implementation focused on core Learning and Development capabilities, including centralized course catalog, enrollment and scheduling, learner profiles and learning record tracking, compliance and mandatory training workflows, and reporting for training administration. Configuration prioritized alignment with municipal HR data models, role based access controls, and automated user provisioning consistent with SAP HCM operational patterns.
Operational coverage extended across all departments, delivering training services in coordination with departmental business owners and aligning with the City of Cambridge Corporate Technology Strategic Plan. The SAP HCM Learning Management System was part of the city’s cloud portfolio alongside Kronos Telestaff and CammsRISK, and it leveraged SAP HCM master data for identity, organizational hierarchies and learning assignment logic.
Governance for the SAP HCM Learning Management System was formalized through Technology Services policies and procedures for architecture, security, standards, data and service provision. Ongoing administration and rollout activities were embedded into existing business systems management processes to ensure compliance with enterprise architecture and data governance requirements.
