| MicroStrategy | Legacy | MicroStrategy ONE Analytics | Analytics and BI | Analytics and BI | n/a | 2011 | 2018 |
In 2011, Comerica Bank implemented MicroStrategy ONE Analytics to centralize Financial reporting and Analytics for institutional trades and leveraged finance activities, positioning the deployment within the Analytics and BI category. The project targeted business users in Internet-facing and enterprise data warehouse teams, with a focus on dashboarding and ad hoc reporting to support revenue and gross profit analysis across the organization.
Implementation work included building a semantic layer with a Metadata Repository and statistical tables, and provisioning a MicroStrategy project using MicroStrategy Desktop 9 and the Configuration Wizard. Developers constructed schema objects and public objects such as attributes, facts, hierarchies, metrics, filters, transformations, custom groups, and consolidations, and created Report Services Documents and dynamic dashboards that presented grid and graph outputs and allowed drill down to the lowest claim level.
The deployment architecture combined MicroStrategy Intelligence Server, MicroStrategy Web, MicroStrategy Administrator, MicroStrategy Narrowcast Server, and MicroStrategy Desktop, with MS SQL Server 2005 on Windows Server 2003 as the relational data store. Custom tables, views, aggregations, and macros were created in the database layer to shape data for MicroStrategy reports, while the Intelligence Server and Narrowcast components handled report serving and distribution for interactive and scheduled consumption.
Governance and release management used MicroStrategy administrative tooling, specifically Project Merge and Object Manager, to move objects across environments and maintain project consistency. Troubleshooting and report lifecycle activities addressed prompts, filters, templates, consolidations, and custom group behavior, including custom group designs to manage simultaneous total and average calculations, and prototypes were iterated with Internet Business Users to refine drill path and visualization requirements.
Delivered capabilities emphasized interactive analytics rather than quantitative outcomes, with MicroStrategy ONE Analytics producing customized Report Services Documents, prototypes of dashboards, and dynamic yearly performance dashboards that enabled business users to analyze total revenue and gross profit across hierarchies and periods. The implementation is documented as a bank-wide Analytics and BI initiative supporting financial reporting and analytics functions.
