| SAP | Legacy | SAP S/4 HANA | ERP Financial | ERP | n/a | 2017 | 2017 |
In 2017 Concur implemented SAP S/4 HANA as the centerpiece of an ERP Financial initiative to consolidate finance, billing, and revenue accounting processes. The SAP S/4 HANA deployment was positioned to unify Core Finance and Hybris Billing capabilities alongside revenue accounting and HR finance workflows across the company.
Implementation scope centered on Core Finance, Hybris Billing, Revenue Accounting, IT Cross, Infrastructure, and HR modules, configured to support end to end order to cash and revenue accounting processes common to ERP Financial systems. SAP S/4 HANA configuration included billing orchestration and revenue recognition sequencing, with package-level attention to finance master data consolidation and finance ledgers.
Integrations and operational coverage were coordinated with corporate IT programs, including a Concur WAN migration to the SAP platform and Post Merger Integration activities such as the Hipmunk acquisition integration. ServiceNow Government Risk and Compliance capabilities were implemented in parallel for vendor risk, audit, policy and compliance, and risk workflows, and the team investigated S4 HANA on Microsoft Azure as a potential hosting option. The implementation also enabled SAP to use Concur Technologies for 85,000 SAP employees as part of broader platform alignment.
Governance and rollout were driven by the Engineering Program Office, which applied security hardening and controls including Federal Information Processing Standards and Security Technical Implementation Guide requirements to align with FISMA level controls. Cross functional coordination spanned Finance, IT, HR, and Infrastructure teams to operationalize new finance, billing, and compliance workflows under the SAP S/4 HANA ERP Financial program.

Configuration work emphasized chat session handling typical of Chatbots and Conversational AI implementations, including web chat button placement, real-time agent routing, transcript capture, and session handoff workflows between automated prompts and live agents. Salesforce Chat was configured to surface agent-facing context and queue-based distribution logic to support conversational routing and persistent conversation records.
Operational responsibility was aligned to customer support and service operations for chat staffing, response governance, and transcript management. Rollout activities focused on agent workflow changes, chat escalation paths, and platform administration for ongoing button placement and session logging on Concur’s website.
