| R3 Corda | Legacy | R3 Corda Blockchain Platform | Blockchain Platform | Blockchain | n/a | 2016 | 2016 |
In 2016, Credicorp joined the R3 Corda Blockchain Platform as a member of the R3 consortium, becoming the first Spanish speaking Latin American financial institution to participate in the group. Credicorp is Peru’s largest financial services company and operates corporate and personal banking, brokerage services, and other financial services across subsidiaries and in countries including Bolivia, Colombia and Chile, making the engagement regional in scope.
The R3 Corda Blockchain Platform implementation centered on distributed ledger capabilities that record, execute and manage institutions’ financial agreements in synchrony with counterparties. The platform emphasis included functional requirements for identity, privacy, security, scalability and interoperability, reflecting Corda design choices that capture blockchain benefits while aligning with regulated financial institution needs.
Integration work focused on aligning shared ledger workflows with existing banking systems and cross subsidiary business functions such as corporate banking, retail operations and brokerage processing. The engagement was positioned for experimentation and engineering rather than immediate product rollouts, leveraging consortium methods to validate transaction models, permissioning and privacy controls across participating institutions.
Governance and operational coordination occurred through R3’s collaborative structures, including the R3 Lab and Research Centre, with Credicorp contributing via its InnovaCXión Center to co design and test use cases. Consortium members and the R3 team worked together on research, experimentation, design and engineering tasks to advance technical requirements and interoperability approaches for the Blockchain Platform.
Stated aims for the Credicorp participation included improving traceability and transparency of financial transactions and consolidating technological leadership in the region. The narrative and commentary from Credicorp and R3 highlight social and operational benefits related to enhanced transaction traceability, and the work remained framed as collaborative research and applied engineering within the consortium.
