In 2008, Department of Airspace Control deployed Jeppesen Total Airspace and Airport Modeler at a new simulation laboratory in São José dos Campos. The Jeppesen Total Airspace and Airport Modeler implementation focused on developing Brazilian airspace representations and detailed ground models for Rio de Janeiro and Brasília airports to support planning and simulation needs.
Jeppesen Total Airspace and Airport Modeler delivered 2D/3D Simulation capabilities, enabling high‑fidelity airspace topology and airport surface modeling along with scenario-based traffic simulation and procedure analysis. Functional emphasis included procedure adherence testing and capacity and flow analysis to support performance based navigation evaluation and sectorization assessment.
The deployment supported airspace and airport operations and air traffic management across Brazilian FIR and TMA domains, and was explicitly intended to analyse PBN implementation, FIR/TMA re-sectorization and traffic-growth impacts. The physical laboratory in São José dos Campos centralized modeling work, with outputs targeted at national air traffic planning and operational analysis for Rio de Janeiro and Brasília airports, and TAAM was scheduled to be operational in early 2009.
Governance was configured around operational planning and ATM analysis workflows, integrating simulation outputs into procedure design and airspace configuration review processes across air traffic management and airport operations departments. This configuration connected Department of Airspace Control Jeppesen Total Airspace and Airport Modeler 2D/3D Simulation capabilities directly to national airspace design and procedure evaluation use cases.
