| Tableau Software | Legacy | Tableau | Analytics and BI | Analytics and BI | n/a | 2022 | 2022 |
In 2022 East Sussex County Council deployed Tableau within its Analytics and BI estate to consolidate customer contact data from telephony, email and social media into a single contact dashboard, enabling stakeholders and Teams to make better business decisions and to understand the overall customer contact load and journey. Tableau was used as the primary BI application to surface contact trends and to highlight customer journey improvements for directors and operational teams.
The implementation centralized data ingestion and normalization, driven by extensive lookup tables so disparate data tables could interoperate, and delivered a core contact dashboard and reporting views. Functional capabilities included contact analytics, journey visualizations and dashboard-level data automation, with Phase 1 of the work delivered in 2022 and Phase 2 scoped to expand data coverage across the council and automate additional feeds into the BI dashboards.
Integrations and data sources explicitly included Proteus reporting, Matomo for web analytics extraction and the NASSTAR reporting portal, together with multiple telephony data sources. The team collaborated with the councilwide telephony project and investigated implications of moving a Tableau BI environment to Power BI, while addressing reporting requirements tied to migration into an MS Teams telephony environment and identity mapping through Active Directory.
Governance centered on cross-organisational stakeholder engagement, with the Customer Contact Data Development Co-ordinator acting as a reporting point of contact and feeding recommendations to senior stakeholders and Directors. The project established data identification standards, lookup table governance and best practice for hunt group configuration, enabling operational teams to better interpret contact metrics and to prioritize customer journey improvements.
