In 2014, Empath Health implemented Microsoft Dynamics GP as its ERP Financial system across its nonprofit integrated network of care. The deployment centered on centralized financial operations for an organization of approximately 1500 employees, with primary accounting responsibility scoped to two legal entities, Empath Community Health and Empath Home Health, and organization wide payroll and PTO posting processes.
The Microsoft Dynamics GP implementation was configured to manage core general ledger and transaction processing, accounts payable vendor setup, balance sheet reconciliations, and cash management workflows. Empath Health paired Microsoft Dynamics GP with Management Reporter 2012 for Microsoft Dynamics to produce financial statements and to support month end presentation and reporting, while heavy use of Microsoft Excel supported ad hoc analysis and pivot reports.
Operational integrations included the Management Reporter 2012 reporting layer and procedural integrations with Microsoft Access and Excel queries used to validate entity, discipline and department coding for payroll. Payroll processes were executed bi weekly inside the Dynamics GP environment, with downstream adjustments made to payroll systems to ensure correct general ledger coding. Cash management covered intercompany bank transfers and monthly reconciliations across 17 bank accounts, and staff performed intercompany balance reconciliations between entities.
Governance and workflow design positioned accounting staff to report into the controller, concentrating full financial ownership and monthly close activities for the two entities within the GP platform. The implementation embedded reconciliation controls, bank reconciliation cadence, AP vendor onboarding procedures, and payroll verification workflows, using the Microsoft Dynamics GP application to centralize transactional finance and reporting across Empath Health.

UKG Workforce Central HR was installed, configured, and provisioned to deliver time capture, scheduling, and automated timecard processing. The implementation included integration touchpoints with the organization HRIS and Payroll systems, and the time management application was fully integrated with the EMR environment to support clinical staffing and payroll reconciliation.
The project team directed installation of agency applications into a full Virtual Desktop environment using Citrix XenApp and XenDesktop 8.x and migrated servers to a virtual server infrastructure with a fully redundant SQL Server 2012 Cluster. Empath Health maintained a clinical systems footprint that included two EMR platforms and two medication management applications, and the organization implemented full ePrescribing capabilities that integrated physician medication orders with the appropriate EMR and inpatient medication dispensing stations based on patient location and care program.
Operational governance included direct responsibility for performance and maintenance of Clinical Management Systems, and configuration work to support CPOE, Meaningful Use, Dragon speech recognition, interoperability, CoPS and CMS requirements. The Kronos time management implementation reduced payroll processing costs by 65 percent and established a governed, auditable timekeeping workflow tied into HRIS, Payroll, and clinical systems.
