Microsoft Legacy Microsoft Power BI Analytics and BI Analytics and BI Dynamic Aspect 2021 2021
In 2021, energySEA implemented Microsoft Power BI as part of a Microsoft platform initiative focused on Analytics and BI. Director Anthony Johnston drove a vision to build business applications and integrate existing systems quickly and securely using Microsoft 365, Dynamics 365 Sales and Business Central, Power Apps, Power Automate, and Power BI, and the company selected Dynamics 365 Business Central as its ERP while partnering with Microsoft partner Dynamic Aspect. Microsoft Power BI was configured to deliver self-service reporting, centralized dashboards, and data modeling that aggregated transactional and sales data from Dynamics 365 Business Central and Dynamics 365 Sales, and that consumed events and outputs from Power Apps and Power Automate workflows. The implementation emphasized low-code, rapid assembly of analytical views so teams could produce operational reports in hours instead of months, and reports were aligned to Microsoft identity and role controls for secure access. Architecturally the deployment used cloud-hosted Microsoft platform services to unify data and analytics, with Business Central operating as the transactional system, Power Platform components enabling application extension and automation, and Power BI serving as the visualization and analytics layer. Dynamic Aspect supported data model design, report configuration, and phased rollout to core business functions including sales, finance, and operations, while aligning governance to tenant-level access and report ownership standards. Governance activities focused on establishing secure data connections, report ownership, and a lightweight change control process to support rapid iteration of Power Apps and Power BI artifacts. The combined Microsoft Power BI and Dynamics 365 deployment delivered integrated and comprehensive business analytics across the Microsoft stack and met the stated objective of enabling energySEA teams to build solutions in hours rather than months.
