| SAP | Legacy | SAP ERP ECC 6.0 | ERP Financial | ERP | n/a | 2019 | 2019 |
FBL Financial Group implemented SAP ERP ECC 6.0 in 2019 to support core ERP Financial operations and downstream EPM reporting. The implementation was managed alongside SAP BW and BPC administration responsibilities, with primary operational ownership for morning ETL processes and frontline support for more than 180 EPM and Analysis for Office users. SQL Server 2019 was the target database platform for platform upgrades and ongoing maintenance.
The team established a daily maintenance cycle that codified SAP best practices, which reduced the production database footprint by 480 GB. A focused BPC tax project consolidated 19 discrete tax reports into a single dynamic BPC report using Excel macros, and BPC input templates were designed to meet tax return reporting requirements. ABAP scripting was used to automate data retrieval from ECC transaction code fixed asset reports into BPC, aligning source system extracts with EPM input models.
Operational integration centered on SAP BW 7.x and BPC 10.x running on SQL Server 2019, with morning ETL orchestration and distribution of analytic outputs to Analysis for Office users. The implementation leveraged SAP BusinessObjects Web Intelligence distribution capabilities to shift reporting load away from underused SAP java stack servers, enabling infrastructure rationalization within the FINS Center of Excellence. Support scope explicitly covered EPM, BPC, BW, Analysis for Office, and fixed asset reporting flows tied to the SAP ERP ECC 6.0 environment.
Governance changes included formalizing the maintenance cadence, establishing frontline support processes for EPM users, and coordinating timely platform upgrades. The program executed coordinated upgrades of EPM and Analysis for Office, BPC 10.0 NW to BPC 10.1 NW, and BW 7.4 to BW 7.5 on the SQL Server 2019 database. These upgrade activities were performed in a controlled operational window and integrated into ongoing support responsibilities for the FINS COE.
Explicit outcomes documented from the engagement include a 480 GB reduction in database size and an infrastructure expense reduction of approximately 3,000 USD per year through removal of unused SAP java stack servers. Ongoing responsibilities maintained included resolving morning ETL failures and providing frontline support for the 180 plus EPM and Analysis for Office user community, preserving continuity between SAP ERP ECC 6.0, BW, and BPC systems.
