IFS Legacy IFS Manufacturing Execution System (MES) Manufacturing Execution System ERP Services and Operations n/a 2015 2015
In 2015, FNSS Defense Systems implemented IFS Manufacturing Execution System (MES) as a central element of its Manufacturing Execution System landscape. The deployment sits on top of FNSS’s long-standing IFS estate, which has been in use since 2009 and serves as the company’s digital backbone across Turkey and regional offices in Malaysia and Oman, supporting project-based production of tracked and wheeled armored vehicles and other defense platforms. The implementation combined a bespoke IFS Manufacturing Execution System deployment with core IFS ERP modules and a set of custom applications developed by FNSS. Functional capabilities explicitly deployed include real-time shop floor tracking of production progress, production status and detail reporting, project cost capture and traceability, and data feeds into a business intelligence portal used by senior management. The MES was configured to support project-based manufacturing workflows, cost control by project, and retrieval of historical guide data from engineering and procurement for bid preparation. Integrations were executed using web services and native IFS interfaces, linking the MES and ERP modules to the company PLM environment and to a supplier portal used by more than 300 suppliers. The PLM to ERP integration carries new part releases and engineering change requests into procurement and production, while the supplier portal and custom MES application exchange transaction and status data with IFS modules to enable bidirectional, near real-time supply chain visibility. Governance and process changes centered on shifting FNSS to a project-based production model, embedding project cost tracking and contract management workflows into the IFS applications, and delivering role-based information to project managers. The IFS infrastructure was used to detect potential cost and schedule deviations early, and to route accurate base cost and contract information to decision makers. The platform’s remote access capabilities also supported a rapid operational pivot to distributed work during the COVID-19 pandemic. Explicit outcomes documented by FNSS include easier management of project costs, shortened delivery times, sustainable agility and improved global competitiveness, fast return on investment, and improved access to key decision data through the BI portal. FNSS also planned a 2022 upgrade of IFS and phased adoption of a PLM Digital Continuity module to enable concurrent engineering where designers and manufacturing engineers work in parallel on models and manufacturing instructions.
