| ProShip | Legacy | ProShip Shipping | Shipping Management | eCommerce | n/a | 2010 | 2010 |
In 2010 Follett Higher Education Group implemented ProShip Shipping as its enterprise shipping solution. ProShip Shipping was deployed to support shipping operations across more than 1250 Follett bookstores in the United States and Canada, aligning the vendor application with retail store shipping and logistics under the Shipping Management category.
The implementation encompassed core Shipping Management capabilities such as label generation, carrier manifesting, shipment tracking, and rate shopping, configured to operate in a retail bookstore context. The deployment used virtualized infrastructure on Dell PowerEdge Hyper V servers and was managed with Microsoft configuration tooling including SCCM and Active Directory user and computer management, enabling centralized software distribution and configuration control.
Operational integration included coexistence with proprietary Point of Sale and Store Backoffice software and concurrent use alongside FedEx Ship Manager, reflecting multi-system shipping workflows. Network and remote administration was supported through Cisco Meraki switches and Meraki portal controls, AT&T routers for WAN connectivity, and remote access tools including RDP, iDRAC, and Putty for device level troubleshooting.
Governance and rollout relied on centralized IT product support, with an IT Product Support Specialist providing phone and remote connectivity support and contributing to system implementation and rollouts. Change control and operational support processes emphasized remote remediation, SCCM based patching and provisioning, and coordination with store operations to align shipping workflows with store level fulfillment and logistics.

| Blue Yonder | Legacy | JDA Merchandise Management System | Inventory Management | SCM | n/a | 2008 | 2009 |
In 2008, Follett Higher Education Group implemented JDA Merchandise Management System from Blue Yonder as the core Inventory Management solution supporting its bookstore network. The deployment covered Follett’s retail operations across more than 800 college and university bookstores in North America and was applied to order fulfillment workflows that process over 1.2 million annual orders.
The implementation combined JDA Merchandise Management System with JDA’s Win/DSS point of sale solution and the Performance Analysis application to establish centralized inventory control and analytical merchandising capabilities. Functional modules included core inventory control, order fulfillment orchestration for web and in-store sales, point of sale transaction handling, and performance analytics for fast and slow mover analysis and weeks of sales calculations.
Integrations were operationally focused, with Win/DSS fully integrated with MMS to process web order returns at store POS, and inventory visibility extended to support picking web orders from store stock by store associates. The integrated data flows gathered, integrated, and distributed inventory and sales information throughout merchandising, store operations, and order fulfillment teams to drive stocking and picking decisions.
Governance and workflow changes shifted responsibility for e-commerce order fulfillment onto store operations, enabling store associates to pick web orders and then be redirected to the sales floor as queues shortened. As an explicitly reported outcome, order fulfillment time decreased by 30 percent on Follett’s more than 1.2 million annual orders, producing labor cost savings and improved customer service while Performance Analysis was used to optimize in-store merchandise availability.
