In 2016, Free People deployed MicroStrategy ONE Analytics for Analytics and BI to centralize planning and allocation analytics across merchandising and operations. The implementation was owned by the Planning and Allocation organization, reporting to the Director of Planning and Allocation, with a team lead accountable for a six person analytics team responsible for business analytics tools and systems integration to drive cross-division efficiency.
MicroStrategy ONE Analytics was configured to deliver assortment and key-item planning workflows, location-level sales and gross margin planning, and operational dashboards and scorecards to support allocation decisions. The team developed and operationalized TXT Assortment and Key Item Planning, with the TXT Assortment and Key Item Planning capability launched in 2017 Q2, and built allocation-oriented analytics that produced sales and gross margin plan targets by location.
The deployment emphasized systems integration and operational coverage across Planning and Operations, with the analytics lead self taught in MicroStrategy business intelligence tooling and responsible for integration work to align data feeds and allocation workflows. Operational scope included Planning and Allocation and the Operations team, and the implementation included restructuring of the Operations team to better leverage practitioner expertise and improve efficiency.
Governance was centralized under the Director of Planning and Allocation, with the analytics lead accountable for tool development, rollout sequencing, and ongoing analytics ownership. Early operational improvements were recorded, including the identification and elimination of inefficiencies within the first 30 days that yielded more than 20 hours of labor savings, and the deployment continued to focus on embedding MicroStrategy ONE Analytics into planning and allocation processes.
