PTV Group Legacy PTV Vissim Traffic Simulation PLM and Engineering n/a 2018 2018
In 2018 Gdansk University of Technology implemented PTV Vissim for Traffic Simulation as part of the RID2B research program. The deployment supported research commissioned by GDDKiA and funded by NCBR, focused on modern methods for calculating capacity and assessing traffic conditions on roads outside agglomerations, including motorways and express roads. PTV Vissim was used to develop microsimulation models that replicate weaving sections and merging behavior on high speed roadways. The implementation centered on model configuration, calibration and scenario analysis, running comparative assessments alongside HCM and HBS calculation methods. Functional workstreams included network geometry modeling, vehicle behavior parameterization, demand loading, and sensitivity testing of selected factors affecting weaving area performance. Operational coverage targeted weaving sections on motorways and express roads in Poland, executed by a university research team in collaboration with the client agencies. Models were iteratively validated using observed traffic patterns and used to generate comparative outputs for capacity estimation and traffic condition assessment. The work was organized within a project governance structure led by fixed term researchers, aligning deliverables to GDDKiA and NCBR requirements. The implementation positioned Gdansk University of Technology PTV Vissim Traffic Simulation capability as the microsimulation component of a multi-method assessment framework, enabling side by side comparison with HCM and HBS methodologies and structured analysis of factor impacts on weaving sections.
