| SAP | SAP ERP ECC 6.0 | SAP S/4 HANA | ERP Financial | ERP Financial Management | n/a | 2024 | 2024 |
In 2024, Glencore Australia scoped an upgrade from SAP ERP ECC 6.0 to SAP S/4 HANA through an eight week discovery and planning engagement. The engagement defined and sized the SAP S/4 HANA solution footprint and evaluated associated hardware, infrastructure, and third party applications across the GCAA SAP landscape to support a controlled migration path.
The planning work concentrated on ERP Financial capabilities, with SAP S/4 HANA positioned to support core finance and accounting functions. The scope emphasized typical ERP Financial modules and workflows such as general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, asset accounting, financial close orchestration, and reporting and analytics alignment to streamline end user processes in finance.
Integrations considered during the engagement included on prem and cloud infrastructure dependencies and connections to adjacent SAP environments and third party applications, with an explicit assessment of potential impacts on the broader SAP landscape and end user access. A project manager was engaged on contract Nov 2024 to Dec 2024 in Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia in a hybrid model to coordinate discovery, stakeholder interviews, and technical scoping activities.
Governance planning focused on establishing migration sequencing, cutover risk identification, and stakeholder communication pathways to ensure ongoing vendor support and to future proof the GCAA SAP solution. The discovery deliverables were intended to appropriately plan the migration to SAP S/4 HANA, to understand downstream impacts on the SAP estate and end users, and to ensure the environment is current, supported, and scalable to GCAA business needs.

In 2020, Glencore Australia implemented SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central as its Core HR platform across the company's global copper business. The program established a leadership role accountable for the design and delivery of a Human Capital Management and Human Experience Management transformation spanning HR master data, organizational hierarchies and workforce lifecycle processes. Implementation intent focused on centralizing employee records and standardizing core HR operations across regional sites and business units.
SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central was configured to provide core employee profiles, organizational management and position management capabilities, supporting hire to retire workflows and automated workforce lifecycle events. Configuration included role based access controls, country specific data models to support global compliance and localized templates to standardize onboarding and internal mobility. The deployment emphasized Core HR data governance, workforce data validation rules and standardized HR transaction processing.
The HCM and HXM ecosystem implemented includes SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central, Qualtrics for employee experience capture and Kronos UKG Workforce Dimensions for time and attendance and scheduling. These systems were integrated to enable bi directional data flows between Core HR master data and workforce management, and to feed employee experience signals into HR processes. Integration architecture relied on cloud orchestrations and middleware for secure master data synchronization and event driven updates.
Governance established centralized HR process ownership with program level change management to align regional HR teams, talent and operations stakeholders to new workflows. The transformation formalized approval workflows, data stewardship roles and cutover sequencing for phased rollout across the global copper business. Ongoing operational scope includes HR operations, talent management and workforce planning functions supported by SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central as the Core HR system.

Functional responsibilities included gap analysis and conceptual design for acquisitions and divestments, as well as Business Intelligence requirements documentation for BI BOBJ reporting tied to asset and maintenance KPIs.
Integration efforts focused on bidirectional touch points between Enterprise Asset Management, Materials Management, and Financial Accounting, reflecting expanded integration knowledge across EAM MM and FICO modules. Operational coverage included site-level SAP EAM support for Glencore Coal Australia with regional activity in the Greater Brisbane Area, and project activity to onboard acquisitions and manage divestments into the SAP EAM environment.
