| SAP | Legacy | SAP ERP ECC 6.0 - Plant Maintenance (PM) | Plant Maintenance | ERP Services and Operations | n/a | 2008 | 2008 |
In 2008, Godrej Consumer Products implemented SAP ERP ECC 6.0 - Plant Maintenance (PM) as part of a company-wide SAP ERP go-live across all plants and offices. The SAP ERP ECC 6.0 - Plant Maintenance (PM) deployment at Godrej Consumer Products was executed on a centralized architecture, with the broader SAP rollout for the company completed in approximately four months at GCPL, and implemented alongside multiple core enterprise modules.
The Plant Maintenance implementation was delivered as an integrated component within the SAP ERP suite, alongside sales and distribution, finance controlling, material management, production planning, quality management, and export-import modules that were explicitly part of the go-live. Configuration activity emphasized centralized maintenance masters, standardized maintenance planning and scheduling, and tighter linkage between Plant Maintenance and Material Management for spare parts provisioning and inventory control. These functional choices aligned Plant Maintenance workflows with enterprise production planning and quality management processes.
Operational and technical workstreams included an advance hardware refresh to blade server architecture to meet SAP platform requirements, and a migration away from the prior distributed MFG/PRO by QAD environment that had been running since 1995. MFG/PRO instances were decommissioned while historical data was retained for the legally required ten year period, and the SAP footprint was designed to populate a centralised integrated database. The company also planned to bring Business Information Warehouse online in February 2008 to provide analytical reporting and real time visibility tied to the Plant Maintenance and ERP data.
Governance changes accompanied the Plant Maintenance rollout, with standardized reporting, role and responsibility changes, and targeted user training to adapt to centralized maintenance processes. Management commentary in the implementation period highlighted improved and faster decision-making from the centralized integrated database, and the program encouraged centralized purchasing and branch operations planning as part of broader efficiency and cost management objectives.
