In 2015, Ground Construction implemented COINS ERP as its Construction ERP solution to centralise finance and payroll functions across the group. The deployment was overseen from the finance office in Welwyn Garden City and targeted core financial controls, payroll processing, and plant and hire accounting workflows.
COINS ERP was configured to host core financials including accounts payable and receivable, payroll interfaces, and job and plant hire financial controls common to construction accounting. The implementation included configuration of board reporting and KPI packs to support bi-monthly board meetings and two year rolling forecasts used by the business.
Integrations implemented as part of the program included an automated import of time data from the existing Donseed time recording system and the installation of a bespoke time recording system feeding COINS ERP for payroll and job costing. Operational coverage focused on the finance and payroll departments and extended to smaller group entities, with training and mentoring used to bring subsidiary reporting up to standard.
Governance and process changes accompanied the technical rollout, including the introduction of bi-monthly KPI reporting, daily three month cash flow look ahead practices, and staff training to operationalise the new COINS ERP workflows. Explicit outcomes from the period include the successful installation of COINS ERP and the bespoke time recording system, improved payroll automation that freed time for checking adjustments and authorising overtime more accurately, and business practices including two year rolling forecasts that supported the tower crane hire business to expand to triple its size.
