In 2005, Groupe Welcoop implemented Sage Business Cloud X3 (ex Sage ERP X3) across its export subsidiaries. The decision followed a project begun in 2001 led by Hervé Jalet, IT Manager of the Export subsidiaries, to standardize ERP usage and ensure adherence to good distribution practices medication.
The deployment targeted ERP Financial capabilities, implementing core financial and accounting controls alongside distribution and inventory workflows appropriate to pharmaceutical distribution. Sage Business Cloud X3 was configured with a company-isolated architecture, maintaining one X3 file per legal entity to preserve each subsidiary's independence while enforcing shared data models and standardized process frameworks.
Rollout started in French and wider European subsidiaries, with governance centralized through the export IT organization to coordinate configuration, master data standards, and deployment sequencing. The implementation structured finance and distribution business functions under common process definitions, aligning local operational prerogatives with group-level compliance and control requirements.
