In 2016, Hartville Hardware implemented Epicor Eagle in the Retail Management category to centralize inventory control and reporting across its large home center. Hartville Hardware operates a two level, 305,000 square foot sales floor with more than 75,000 SKUs, and the Epicor Eagle deployment targeted store operations, purchasing, and special order workflows to support that scale.
The Epicor Eagle implementation included Epicor Eagle Compass as the business intelligence component and Epicor Eagle Advanced Special Orders to track special orders from creation to delivery. Configuration emphasized inventory replenishment and purchase-order analysis, with Compass replacing older RQ reporting by delivering low-margin reports and detailed purchase-order reports for departmental decision making. The deployment enabled deeper data mining and ad hoc reporting capabilities through Eagle Compass.
Operational coverage spanned store associates handling special orders, the special orders department, purchasing and inventory teams, the management team, and IT for report delivery and configuration. IT management used Compass to produce consistent, role-specific reports for managers, while Advanced Special Orders reduced the time associates spend locating orders. The deployment focused on improving front-line customer service and day to day inventory decisions.
Governance and process changes included standardized reporting workflows and a streamlined special orders retrieval process. Hartville Hardware reported that locating a special order fell from up to 15 minutes to under a minute after deploying Epicor Eagle Advanced Special Orders. The company also used Epicor Eagle insights to adjust purchasing and drop-shipping practices, increasing inventory turns from 2.1 to more than four.

In 2016, Hartville Hardware implemented Epicor Compass, an Epicor Analytics and BI application, to increase insight into its expanded retail operations. Hartville Hardware is a family owned home center near Akron Ohio operating a 305,000 square foot sales floor across two levels, managing more than 75,000 SKUs and a broad mix of departments including hardware, paint, equipment rental, lawn and garden, a restaurant, and collectibles.
Epicor Compass was configured to deliver standardized operational and financial reporting, replacing prior ad hoc RQ reporting workflows. The implementation included prebuilt reports and data mining views used by purchasing and departmental managers for low margin reporting and purchase order analysis, enabling consolidated views of SKU turns and margin profiles and supporting faster, more consistent management reporting.
The Compass deployment was layered on top of the existing Epicor Eagle business management environment that Hartville Hardware has operated since 1982, aligning Compass datasets with Eagle transaction and inventory records. Operational coverage prioritized inventory management, purchasing, special orders, and store management, with reports delivered to the IT manager and the management team for daily decision making and departmental business decisions.
Alongside Epicor Compass, Hartville Hardware implemented Epicor Eagle Advanced Special Orders to track special orders from creation to delivery, reducing special order lookup time from as much as 15 minutes to under one minute per associate. The combined use of Epicor Compass and Epicor Eagle capabilities supported changes in inventory policy including greater use of drop shipping and an increase in turn rate from 2.1 to more than four, while enabling ad hoc analysis and deeper data mining that the IT team reports they are still expanding.
