In 2017, HESS Construction implemented Sage 300CRE (ex Timberline) as its Construction ERP to centralize payroll and benefits operations. The deployment targeted the company’s HR and payroll functions for the Montgomery County Maryland based construction manager and general contractor employing approximately 80 staff.
Configuration emphasized payroll processing, benefits administration, employee record management, quarterly reconciliation, and W-2 production using Sage Timberline workflows within Sage 300CRE (ex Timberline). The implementation included data import and export capabilities to exchange files with external benefit and 401(k) administrators, and templates to support quarterly agency reporting and annual reconciliation. Staff proficiency with Microsoft products supported spreadsheet reconciliation and audit preparation during regular payroll cycles.
Operational integrations explicitly include the Kelly portal for initiating COBRA activities, and automated file exchanges with benefits vendors and 401(k) administrators for enrollments, changes, and audit support. Day to day scope covers onboarding and hiring activities, separation processing including COBRA initiation, benefits enrollment processing, and ongoing maintenance of employee record data. The system is the source for producing W-2s and for preparing documentation used in 401(k) audits.
Governance centered on standardized payroll reconciliation and quarterly reporting workflows routed through the payroll and HR teams, with documented procedures for annual reconciliation and W-2 issuance. Process controls were implemented around import and export file handling to maintain auditability with external administrators. HESS Construction uses Sage 300CRE (ex Timberline) as the central Construction ERP for structured benefits administration and payroll governance.

| Bluebeam | Legacy | Bluebeam Revu | Collaboration | Collaboration | n/a | 2016 | 2016 |
In 2016, HESS Construction implemented Bluebeam Revu as a central Collaboration application to standardize document review, markup, and bid package assembly across its project portfolio in Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia. The deployment targeted estimating and preconstruction workflows, extending to project management and field teams supporting university, K–12, and R D facility projects.
Bluebeam Revu was configured to support PDF markup and measurement workflows, quantity takeoff procedures, and standardized profile and template distribution for estimators. The implementation emphasized reproducible markup sets, measurement calibration for concrete and MEP takeoffs, and centralized PDF document control to streamline subcontractor bid package creation and contract documentation.
Operationally the solution was used alongside Microsoft Office Products, AutoCAD, Onscreen Takeoff, Grande Beam, and Earthworks Pro in day to day estimating and document production workflows, enabling consistent file exchange between design files and bid documents. Bluebeam Revu served as the collaboration layer for iterative drawing review and for assembling the documentation packages required for subcontractor solicitation and contract review procedures.
Governance and rollout were managed under the Director of Estimating, with training and profile standardization delivered to the estimating team and project managers. Bluebeam Revu was incorporated into formal processes used to document and review potential risk factors with senior management, including contract bond authorization, contract review, and insurance review, aligning document workflows to existing estimating and contract control procedures.
