In 2018 Hydro Tasmania initiated a program to implement SAP S/4 HANA as its core ERP platform, replacing SAP ERP ECC 6.0 and consolidating enterprise financial processes under the ERP Financial footprint. The program was managed from Hydro Tasmania's central IT program office and scoped as an enterprise finance, procurement and HR modernization effort.
The SAP S/4 HANA implementation delivered core financial modules and explicit functional additions, including the Leased Assets module and a Governance, Risk and Compliance Audit module. Human capital functionality was extended through implementing SuccessFactors Employee Central, and procurement was later brought into the SAP S/4 HANA core during an upgrade, aligning procurement workflows with finance.
Hydro Tasmania executed an ECC6 to SAP S/4 HANA conversion that was completed in June 2020, with a subsequent upgrade of the SAP S/4 HANA environment to version 2022. These platform milestones positioned SAP S/4 HANA as the primary ERP Financial system and centralized transaction processing for treasury, fixed assets, procurement, and audit controls.
Accenture served as the system integrator for the program, and program management resources were embedded from mid 2019 to run program planning, individual project delivery, and ongoing enhancement work. The ECC6 to SAP S/4 HANA conversion was delivered on time and in budget during the pandemic, indicating staged rollout governance and controlled cutover procedures.
Parallel to the SAP program Hydro Tasmania completed a multi million dollar infrastructure program, migrating from in-house server rooms to hyper converged infrastructure hosted in third party data centres, this infrastructure provided the operational architecture for SAP S/4 HANA and integrated components. Operational scope encompassed finance, procurement, HR and GRC functions, with continued enhancement and upgrade activity into 2022.

In 2020 Hydro Tasmania implemented SAP S/4 HANA - Asset Management as its Enterprise Asset Management platform. The implementation is delivered on SAP S4 HANA infrastructure and the environment was maintained into a SAP S4 HANA 2022 operational footprint where BAU engineering and support activities are performed.
The deployment centers on SAP EAM capabilities with explicit functional coverage of Plant Maintenance, including preventive maintenance planning and corrective maintenance execution, plus Project Portfolio Management and Project System modules supporting capital and project workflows. Configuration work included creation of functional specifications, WRICEFs, system use cases and test scripts, and Fiori launchpad spaces and pages for EAM, PPM and PS to surface task and work order processes to end users.
Integrations and device tooling implemented for operational mobility include the BlueWorx mobile device application, delivered in partnership with Zag part of Accenture, used for maintenance of functional locations and equipment and administered by Hydro Tasmania to provision users and roles. Data movement and mass upload processes are supported by Winshuttle with testing on Precisely Automate Studio 24.0, identity and authorization is managed through IDM, and Noveco is referenced alongside EAM and PPM workflows. A TasGRN app was configured with technical teams to enable onsite booking of wireless radios for fleets and site crews.
Operational governance emphasizes BAU support, role and authorization administration in IDM, WRICEF driven change control and vendor collaboration for the SAP S4 HANA 2022 upgrade. Work included hands on device provisioning at Hydro Tasmania power stations to enable field access to BlueWorx, and support for Fleet and Outage management custom solutions within the Enterprise Asset Management scope.
