In 2019, Infinera implemented Sterling Background Check as its BackGround Screening solution to support Talent Acquisition and pre hire screening workflows. The decision was executed at the North America Talent Acquisition level, where a Senior Manager of Talent Acquisition managed day to day operations for an 18 person recruiting team and negotiated and managed the enterprise contract with Sterling Background Check.
The implementation focused on using Sterling Background Check for enterprise level background screening capabilities common to the BackGround Screening category, including identity verification and criminal and employment checks as part of offer acceptance and onboarding gates. Sterling Background Check was configured as the primary vendor for pre employment screening and aligned with Infineras recruiting processes, offer templates, and new hire orientation sequencing to ensure screening milestones were part of standard hiring workflows.
Operationally, Sterling Background Check was managed within Infineras vendor management framework alongside third party recruitment and staffing agencies, with SLAs maintained by Talent Acquisition. The rollout covered North American recruiting activities and was coordinated with the team that oversees Global Mobility and Immigration to address cross border employment considerations and compliance touch points.
Governance and process changes accompanied the deployment, Legal partnered with Talent Acquisition to keep recruiting document control and offer templates current, and training curriculum was rolled out to hiring managers and interview teams to incorporate screening step requirements. The implementation was integrated into the Talent Acquisition teams broader process optimization work, which included rebuilding the TA intranet page and membership on the core team that streamlined global recruitment processes for efficiency and time to fill.
Explicit operational outcomes tied to the deployment include negotiated enterprise contract management with Sterling Background Check and incorporation of screening into onboarding and orientation materials. The Talent Acquisition function also maintained a dashboard of recruiting metrics that incorporated screening status as part of candidate progression, and managed vendor SLAs for background screening as an ongoing operational control.
